There are many different types of angiomas. An angioma is a benign growth that consists of small blood vessels. These tumors can be located anywhere on the body. Some of the different types include spider angiomas, cherry angiomas, and angiokeratomas.

The cause of the Cherry Angioma is unknown.

Treatment Angiomas

Angiomas do not need to be treated unless they bleed or are bothering one. They can be treated with electrodessication, liquid nitrogen or laser.

Electrosurgery - a minor surgical procedure during where a special electrical needle-like instrument is used to remove the angioma.

Cryotherapy - freezing the affected area with liquid nitrogen.

Laser vaporization - using an intense beam of light to remove the angioma. This technique involves minimal harm to surrounding skin tissue. Unless the lesion is particularly large (1/4 inch across or more), you can expect excellent cosmetic results.

All three types of treatment have similar amounts of discomfort and usually give a good cosmetic result.
