Genital warts are a sexually transmitted condition caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). Genital warts can be flat with stalks, or cauliflower-like, and are most often seen on the genitals or the area around the rectum.

HPV can be divided into several sub-categories. Some types are more resistant to treatment than others, and some are associated with the early stages of cancer in the genitals.

Genital warts are a very common viral sexually transmitted disease. The disease usually hits young people in their 20 years.

Causes of Genital Warts

  • Sexual contact with the infected person.
  • Touching of genitals of the infected person.
  • Sharing of towel with the infected person.

Symptoms of Genital Warts

  • Itching and burning sensation around the genital area.
  • Discomfort.
  • Bleeding.
  • Reddish or pink color swellings around the genitals.

Treatment of Genital Warts

Here is list of the methods for treating Genital Warts :

  • Electrodesiccation: This technique uses an electric current to destroy the warts.
  • You need to take the necessary precautions to prevent trauma to the area, which can result in bleeding.
  • Because the warts themselves are infectious, avoid touching them. Do not pick or squeeze the warts.
  • Genital warts can be treated by painting them with a special liquid. This is done in a GUM clinic.
  • Podophyllum resin (Pod-Ben-25, Podofin) - Topically applied by a doctor.
  • Trichloroacetic acid - Topically applied, response is often incomplete and recurrence is higher, may cause pain and burning.
