Intertrigo - Intertrigo Causes, Treatment And Its Picture
What is Intertrigo ?
Intertrigo is a condition that affects the skinfolds. The skinfolds are areas where skin rubs against skin. Intertrigo is an itchy rash that can get infected with germs or yeast. It usually affects people who are overweight or who have diabetes.
Causes of Intertrigo
The common causes of Intertrigo are as the following :-
- Initiating factors include friction, perspiration, maceration, or irritation from stool, urine, drainage, or topical agents.
- Autoeczematization and infection also may be factors.
- Poor hygiene
- Inflammatory skin diseases, like psoriasis, occurring in the skin folds.
- Rare inherited conditions such as Hailey-hailey disease.
- This condition may also be seen in people who are restricted to bed rest or in those who wear medical devices that may trap moisture against the skin, such as artificial limbs, splints, and braces.
Symptoms of Intertrigo
Some sign and symptoms related to Intertrigo are as follows :-
- Itching.
- Red and moist skin.
- Burning.
- Fever of 1000 or higher with no other cause.
- You may have blisters or scales.
- Discharge of pus.
- You may also have seborrhoeic dermatitis or thrush (candidiasis).
- The affected area may smell cheesy or yeasty.
Treatment of Intertrigo And Home Remedy of Intertrigo
- Watch for early sings of rashes.fast treatment can usually clear up the problem quickly,before it spreads.
- If a rash develope, wash affected areas with water only. Sope can be ieeitating pat dry thoroughly. Apply cold, wet compresses to the rash to reduce itching.
- Avoid lotions and ointments untill the rash / Intertrigo heals.However, calamine lotion is helpful for plant rashes.
- Rashes on the feet or groin may be due to fungal infections.
- Hydrocortisone cream is useful in Intertrigo treatment. it can provide temporary relife of itching. Use sparingly on facial rashes and the genitals.
- Wash affected areas with soap and water daily.
- Yeasts and fungi may be treated with topical antifungals such as clotrimazole and terbinafine cream or oral agents such as itraconazole or terbinafine.
- Use medicated powder in the affected areas on a daily basis. This helps keep the areas dry.
- Inflammatory skin diseases are often treated with low potency topical steroid creams such as hydrocortisone.
